Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we’re REALLY Don the Beachcomber! 23 Restaurant Services acquired the brand in the summer of 2022. Don the Beachcomber is the most iconic brand in faux Polynesian-Pop history, aka “tiki-style,” and we look forward to reintroducing to the world the legend of Donn Beach and Don the Beachcomber.

The first new DTB location is now open in Madeira Beach, FL on the first floor of the Cambria Hotel.

Career opportunities for DTB, along with all our other brands, can be found at 23restaurants.com/goats-wanted

Don is actually Donn Beach (And Donn’s real name is actually Ernest Raymond Gantt…it’s confusing, we know!) – Donn Beach opened the world’s first “tiki-style” bar back in the early 1930’s. Check out our History section on this website for more information.

We’ve assembled an Advisory Board with some of the most influential voices in tiki culture over the last 30 years to help us bring Don the Beachcomber back to life…they are:

  • Tim “Swanky” Glazner – Donn Beach historian currently working on a book and documentary about Donn Beach. Author of Mai-Kai: History and Mystery of the Iconic Tiki restaurant.

  • Martin Cate – Author of Smuggler’s Cove, as well as the owner of the bar by the same name.

  • Sven Kirsten – Tiki historian and author of four tiki books, including The Book of Tiki, which is touted as a veritable bible within the genre.

  • John Mulder – Famous tiki mug designer and owner of Eekum Bookum Tiki Mugs.

  • Danny “Tiki Diablo” Gallardo – Famous designer of tiki carvings, ceramic cocktail mugs and complete tiki bar interiors.

  • Adrian Eustaquio – Long time tiki enthusiast and host of the popular tiki podcast Inside the Desert Oasis Room.
