Don the Beachcomber was famous for his creative and delicious tropical cocktails and the QB Cooler was certainly one of his most popular. As a veteran serviceman in the US Army Air Corp, Donn created this drink in homage to his time in the military. The “QB” in QB Cooler is an acronym for “Quiet Birdmen” a fraternity of aviators which bore the full name, “Ye Anciente and Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen.” Most famously (or controversially), the QB Cooler is a drink that rival Trader Vic Bergeron enjoyed so much, his attempts to reverse engineer it’s recipe led to his creation of the now world famous Mai Tai cocktail in 1944. Like Donn Beach’s famous Zombie cocktail, the QB Cooler was also limited to a maximum of 2 per customer.
